When protecting your home from a wildfire, one effective measure is installing Wildfire Defense Mesh on vulnerable areas such as decks. This mesh acts as a barrier against dangerous flying embers and radiant heat, which are the primary causes of deck ignitions during wildfires.
Tip: Before you begin enclosing your deck with WDM, it is critical to completely clean out underneath your deck so it’s free and clear of debris!
Wildfire Defense Mesh 98 is available in rolls of a width of 24", 36", 49" and 60" x 50' in length. To best determine your need, you will need to measure the open space of your deck's vertical exposure.
Tip: It is suggested to trench the mesh 4-5" into the ground, so after measuring the deck height, add 4-5"'s to the width.
Once you have your measurements to enclose your deck, please proceed to the Berkeley Fire Department Order Page.
